How to Kick Your Own Butt
For the last several years, I’ve been working out with a trainer a few days a week. The workouts are great, but one thing I HATE is cardio work. I’m talking about the standard run on the treadmill, elliptical etc for and hour and call it done. I just have a hard time getting excited about it. So, as a result, I haven’t done much of it. As a result of not doing much of it, I haven’t got the results I want either.
So a few weeks ago I decided it was time to figure out what I could do to fix this. I needed a program or regimen that would keep me entertained and kick my butt at the same time. I was talking with a friend one day and he mentioned P90x. He told me how a fireman buddy of his swears by it as do all his fireman buddies. So I went and checked it out and decided to give it a shot. A quick scan of ebay for the program, a trip to the sporting goods store for a few things and a chin-up bar order and I was ready to go.
Fast forward to today. I did my first workout this morning: Chest and Back with Ab RipperX. An hour and ten minutes later, I was sweaty and thankful to be finished. My ab session wasn’t as good as it should have been simply because I was running out of gas. Which left me with one thought; This thing is no joke.
The workouts are tough, but only if you put in the work. If you bring it, you’ll get served. Period. Basically, the workouts consist of a lot of movements, some with bands or dumbbells, body weight or just moving and there isn’t a lot of downtime. So for me, this is a great fit. I get cardio work in and get to throw some things around at the same time. This is a 90 day rotation broken into three phases. A lot of the individual success with this will be determined by nutrition, which is another post all together. This program isn’t for everyone as some will find it too difficult. In that case, it would be better to start with one of the other Beachbody products. If you choose P90x though, be prepared. You will hate it, but you’ll love it.
